Need some info on this one...

jhm1987 Apr 22, 2010 07:53 PM

I'm just venturing into corns. I need some help identifying this guy. I'm pretty sure he's got the normal coloration, but his pattern is throwing me off. Any ideas? Hybrid or pattern mutation? OR just a plain ole normal?

Man, I look at the first half and say normal corn. However, the reduction in blotch size and change of shape over the second half looks off to me too IMO. It looks husky, but still the neck looks off and there appears to be heavy scalation over the eyes like a pit. Possibly a normal colored turbo corn (corn and gopher mix). Then again, the over all smoothness of the body scales say kingsnake. Nice shot of the head and maybe someone more knowledgable can tell from the head and body scalation.

Yeah it's got me and the b/f stumped. Just got him today and he is pretty um...plump lol. Wild caught in FL about 6 years ago. Hopefully someone will have ran across something like him in the past.

Thanks!

It could be an overweight normal corn. I've seen a lot of them. The one thing that's odd is how thin the blotches are on the back half of the snake.

Looks like a reduced pattern wild type to me. I've seen similar to these here in Central Florida. I am actually breeding some local lines for reduced pattern and they started with an animal my wife found in the kitchen drawer! She called me at work and said one of your snakes is loose in the kitchen. I said you gotta catch it cause the only corns I had at that time were my Abbott Okes1 She was terrified she was gonna get bit. I assured her it wouldn't bite and to just throw it in a pillow case till I got home. When I saw it and said it was a wild snake she almost passed out, ha ha! Here are a couple not exactly the same but they have reduced patterns. One is very hypo too.
