Babies and impaction...

dubumb Sep 21, 2003 10:47 PM

Hi,

I've gotten 4 baby leopard geckos lately, and i've read all around and i've seen people saying not to use sand when they are babies because they will eat it and can get impaction problems. When can i finally put them on sand?

Thanks.

Most leo keepers who use sand always suggests that if sand is your choice, your leo has to be at least 6 in. long. However, many breeders also suggest that using sand is risky, even for leos of 6 inches, because it's definitely possible for fully grown leos to have impaction. Therefore, I would recommend you not to use the sand, and instead, use paper towels, but since it's your leo, the substrate is up to you. If the sand is your final choice, just make sure that your leos are at least 6 in. long. But now, use paper towels until your geckos get bigger.
