Never heard of anybody crossing BRBs with CRB's...though personally I would never have done this. I expect the more earthy colors of the columbian boas would mute or dirty up the reds and oranges common with brazilians.

From what I understand from your post, your friend just produced a 7 baby litter of these hybrids? Post pictures if you can get some, it will be interesting to see what they look like. However please tell your friend to sell them (if he intends to sell them) as hybrids and be clear on that. To do so otherwise would be irresponsible and somewhere down the road make it difficult for breeders of 'pure' Columbians and Brazilians to distinguish the 'alien' blood in future offspring of the hybrids, if any.

I have never been a big fan of the creation of hybrids in the pet trade, even if the two species often intergraded naturally in the wild in areas their ranges crossed. Though I have seen some nice results from hybrids (Jungle corn for instance..corn snake x kingsnake (can't remember the type of kingsnake..in fact I may even be wrong and its something other than a kingsnake) its not something I personally do or encourage. But there definitely is a following of hybrid fans (enough for them to have a separate forum catagory at kingsnake.com). My main concern with hybrids is they are sold as hybrids and all offspring from those first generation (if any) are sold as hybrids and any offspring of future generations after.

i told them to call me after the babies shed and i would come over to help feed.. i had planned on taking my camera over to take photos...

i am also NOT a fan of hybrids.. in the snakes, parrots, dogs or anything else..

i was only curious as to if anyone esle had run across these before..

they are referring to them as a BRB/CRB cross.. they are just hobbists, not breeders..

til photos are taken..

Fyi. you cant hybridize dogs unless you cross them with wolves. other wise your just mixing breeds of dogs. ALL pet dogs(with the exception of wolf hybrids) are canis familiaris. doesnt matter if its a great dane or a chihuaha(sp) its the same animal.
crossing dog breeds is how other dog breeds came about. making a dog breed cross is no differant than breeding a pastel ball to a spider ball to make a bumblebee ball.

I saw some newborns a few years ago and thought that they looked very much like newborn brazilians but was told by an aquantance that saw some again after they had matured a bit that their patterns and color had "muddied" out, presumably from the columbian infulence.

In that case its kinda weird because the colors arent mudded as some people expect them to be.

Brazilian and Peruvian rainbow boas are practically identical in appearance, offspring wouldn't be 'muddied' as a BRB/CRB cross. Columbian rainbow boas are earthy colors, not the deeper reds, red-oranges and orange coloration of BRB's. Peruvians are only really distinguishable from BRB's by scale count and thicker 'circles' in their pattern.

Cool looking little one down there. Looks to my eyes just like a BRB, do you notice anything different with him in person? Do you know of any others out there that are older?

I am asking because I introduced my rescue "BRB" to my friends rescue "BRB" and the more I look at them together I think his is a "PRB". Neither has any history other than the date they entered the herp society's adoption program. My girl was actually very well cared for and is super calm and the male my friend got was skinny coming in and was actually found on the street on the north side of Chicago. The guy that called us had to stop the local kids that wanted to step on it's head and he stepped in because he knew snakes and he "knew" that it was nothing but a harmless "burmese python" much to the chagrin of the guy running out on the call. Luckily the snake was also super calm.
