My New pit housing

alstotton Apr 24, 2010 06:02 PM

After checkin out several 'professionally' made rack set up's I decided to build my own.
This was a long process of mainly trail and error, plus sourcing/tested various materials.Of course like with most things created from scratch, time and usage are a great indicators of how to improve and tweak.

I'm now onto version 2.1 and its more or less 100% Sweet, safe and user friendly

To be honest I'm real pleased with the results and it sure makes me glad I did not go ahead and pay crazy moneys for the well known brand ones I'd originally plan to buy.

Here's the latest build for hatch/juve stock, the shelves are pre vented UpvC,which means no more drilling vent holes into tubs. Also the the adult size version I built and have currently got in action.
The tub sizes are HATCH/JUVE 41cm x 30cm x 10cm. ADULT 75cm x 60cm x 16cm.

HAPPY CUSTOMER!!

Next plan is to build using 100cm x 60cm x 16cm tubs.

Thanks for lookin'

Appreciated mate,I'm real pleased with what i've managed to achieve with decent planning and a bit of hard work.

The pits sure seem to be doing well in their new homes.

Fantastic job!!

Here in the US, I found those boxes at Ikea a few years ago. Perfect sized boxes, and made from Polyethylene of just the right thickness for strength vs weight.

Did you cut the spacer bars yourself or did you have a metal shop do it for you?

Yes your correct those tubs/boxes are just perfect for the job overall.

No I cut all the pieces myself by hand, time consuming, but worth it in the end when it all comes together.

You know what I think about them mate.
As someone said before absolutely the best DIY I've ever seen.

alstotton Apr 27, 2010 08:39 AM

Thanks John

I'm already planning on building a few more next month.

Hey I got a call from Paul our English friend in Germany on monday eve. Amazing!! lol

john dhont Apr 28, 2010 05:00 AM

I've called Paul on Saturday but he did not have a lot of time for talking.
How is the breeding going, any eggs yet?
My sayi looks gravid.
As I don't realy know whats behind I don't know which morphs can hatch from it.
By the way, the jani are still going fine as does the super hypo annectans.

alstotton Apr 29, 2010 06:04 PM

Hi John,

He called me this time!! a long 2hr chat, think he's missing my broad northern english accent.lol

I'm so glad the pits are doing well for you my Belgian pituophis Bro.
Those jani are really sweet lookers as mature snakes,no collection should be without them.
Its lookin like the jani girls will be laying in the next few weeks or so, plus i'm thinkin my hypo annectans girls are fattening up some
