Need some advice

ballpythonaddict Apr 25, 2010 07:22 PM

Hello folks, I am more a python fellow but did add some boas to spice up the collection about 4 years ago. I have a gravid girl here due to give birth in 6 weeks but she has me for a loop right now. She is going into shed. Is this common or will i expect a big clutch of potatoes? Any advice is welcome, thank you.

Boas don't throw clutches - egg layers do , lol . But anyway . Some will have an intermediate shed . I believe that it may be based upon how much food they're offered thru their gestation period . I've only had one Boa that had an intermediate shed , but I usually only feed my gravid girls 3 small rats in their four month gestation period - so no real growth is happening.

I had a female shed about 2 weeks before giving birth to a beautiful litter around a month and a half ago. She did have some slugs though. The count was 14 slugs 31 babies 17 of which were hypos. Good luck and I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Its not a huge concern. I agree, if she was fed and grew a bit then a pre birth shed is normal. Congrats on the boa breeding success, be sure to post pictures when the time comes.

Thanks everyone for the input. This is my first boa breeding, coral sunglow to salmon/het coral albino. I have my fingers crossed.
