Will a 42x24x18 with couple perches work for them for life?
I have never kept them, but think that may be pushing it size wize. The dimensions you stated SHOULD work well for a snake up to about six foot long. Tigers may exceed six feet in length and maybe a five x two cage would be better.
That would really be cramping it's style. They really need alot more climbing room than many other snakes do, as they are very active diurnal snakes. Females can easily reach the 7 to 8 foot range, and males can go far beyond that still into even 10 to 12 feet. I understand the record length is about 14 feet!.
I wouldn't expect it to get anywhere near 14 feet though..LOL!, but it will still get quite large and need plenty of area for climbing if you want to have things optimum.

Thanks both. Right now I have a pair, between 6-7 feet, in a 60"x18"x24" and they don't really use all that space. I would like to separate them so I don't have to deal with taking one out during feeding. I guess I will get something bigger for them.
