Possible respiratory infection?

Jeannie Sep 22, 2003 12:25 AM

Today when I was feeding Moxie (after his soak), I thought I saw him blow a bubble from his nose--I'm pretty sure, but not positive. If I hold him next to my ear, I don't hear any snorting or wheezing, but maybe a little crackling and whuffing (like he is puffing air out). Of course, I don't normally listen to his breathing like that, so to be honest, I don't know if that's normal or not. There is no nasal discharge at all, and he is eating well (more than ever, in fact). He is maybe a little sleepier than usual, but he just finished up his second treatment w/ Panacur, so I don't know if that could be a factor. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow, but does this sound like RNS or a URI?

Another thing--when he is out in his pen, he likes to wander around a while, and then he burrows into the dirt under his cork bark hides. When we water the pen (1x/week), the dirt stays damp under the hides for a couple days, and of course it is cooler under there. Is it possible that this could be the culprit if he does have an infection? The weather here has been very warm lately (over 100 today), and his indoor temp never goes below about 77 at night, so I don't think it can be due to temps.

Thank you for any help you can give me. I'm quite worried!

Hi with out a doubt he doesn't want to stay wet.
As for rns you sure he didn't take water in when you bathed him, if he is still a little snotry and wizzy a good start would be to keep him dry and mybe a little warmer.

This morning he sounds fine, looks fine, no discharge (never had one, actually). I think I'm seeing/hearing things that aren't there, but I'll keep a close watch on him and take him in first thing if I see anything else.

Thanks!

btw, Rich, there is another couple that is breeding Egyptian in the UK. I forgot the last name but it is Dave and Lynda and they run some kind of rescue (I know that narrows the field) but they do sell the ones they produce.

Hey Ed, that the latest in Tortoise Security!

Funny you should say that I was speaking that couple earlier
today, They have a long waiting list by the sounds, I keep my fingers crossed for my requests something will turn up, one hopes!

If I can talk the wife around, (not likely really) get some pancakes - before Shrove Tuesday

How is Sullivan? Hope she's much better. Really, I do think I'm getting in a panic over nothing. Moxie has no discharge, no wheezing, no gasping, and the only way I can hear his breathing is if he's right next to my ear, and then all I hear is air puffing out. I think everything else is the figment of my paranoid imagination. I'm not even sure I actually saw him blow a bubble, it happened so fast. It's been very warm here lately, so I can see why he would be a little sleepier than usual.

This forum is great, but it does tend to keep you on the lookout for disease (also good, of course), and maybe just a little bit neurotic, lol.

But I will keep watch, and take him right in if need be.

Like she doesn't think you waste enough time on the computer that she has to contribute hers.
I don't think she'll ever find out.
