I've heard of them dropping eggs from a branch when they didn't have a box. I thought they went on the ground and laid them. Did she coil around them after laying?

No. I removed and candled the eggs as she laid them. She had the 22 laid before i discovered this, with four more after. I believe she would have entered the nest box and rounded them up if she were allowed to.
