Not so Common Kings....

Jlassiter Apr 29, 2010 10:25 PM

It seems that many on this forum are more into the "common king snake" - getula....I just wanted to share some pics of some not so common kings that I believe are just as beautiful and have a wide array of colors and patterns as well as very few morphs.....

yeah but they're all dead ('cept for the greyband forum). I miss the older k-snake when things weren't so segregated.

I agree..

The mexicana sub forum and alterna forum used to get more posts than the kingsnake main forum....

It seems the lineage aspect of "prove what you got" has turned many away from those subforums and forums......

I know what I got and I will share all the info with them....
I enjoy this hobby and shouldn't have to get in a pissing match all the time concerning lineage.....

The art of counting scales, comparing head shape, patterns, etc. has been lost.....Most folks just make a judgement on pattern and color.....Which can be lost after a few years of line breeding......

"it seems the lineage aspect of "prove what you got" has turned many away from those subforums and forums......"
That's exactly why I don't frequent some of the subforums. I don't care too much about locality in most cases. some times it matters but it really seems like each mile marker on each side of the road has become it's own locality and it drives me nuts. "This came from mile marker 122 on the eastbound side of highway 20, which means i can't cross it to the one I found on the westbound side." Swear to god it's just got crazy. Yeah some populations are genetically isolated (different reticulated pythons found on different islands, some populations of greybands found surrounded by inhospitable terrain) but to see what goes on you'd think each snake was it's own subpopulation at this point and shouldn't be outcrossed at all.

LOL!, tell me about it!. That is my take on alot of it too, and I am pretty hardcore myself about certain things. But many of those dudes treat some poster's super nice looking alterna like it's absolute junk unless they can PROVE exactly which rock it came from under originally. Locality data, and all the info you can get on things is all well and good, but when I see some of those dude's bickering over there, I have to immediately haul a$$ from the insanity..LOL!

I used to check out the Alterna forum but I felt like my snakes weren't pedigree enough so I don't even go there anymore. GOD forbid some poor new guy goes there with a 100% generic Alterna

what cracks me up are two things:
1--some generic alterna are drop dead stunning animals
2--there's enough variability within populations that it seems to overshadow the differences between most of these populations.

Yeah if look thru the Alterna page you'll see representations of almost every variant in all the locations. Some may stand out like black Gap but for the most part you find Blairs, and Alterna, and dark phases in every location.

I have a single female pituophis......In 2007 I was working up in Benicia California and found a Pacific Coast Gopher yearling......She is full grown now needing a male from the same area......One of these days....i think Bob Bichler has a male and he lives there too....Hint, hint Bob.....

Thanks Pat........
