Is it just me or has the Sunset gene appeared to have been muddied and modified?
As I understand it a Hypo Hog x Hypo Hog produces 25% supers being 50/50 shot Hypo and Hog in the super hypo form. So from that litter 25% could be supers or Sunsets.
Where are these 87% Hog Sunsets coming from and how are they Sunsets if not 50/50 Hypo Hog in the Super form?
I am no expert - but I have had (until last week) many Hypo Hogs that resemble the clean lines and patterns of Sunsets but they are still Hypo Hogs, not Sunsets- and upon close inspection you can see they have some black on their tails and they are not as clean as the supers. So I had them labeled as Hypo Hogs- Not Sunsets.
I see some selling Sunsets that say they came from Hypo Hog x Hypo Hog and they appear to be Het Sunsets to me.. not Sunsets. Then there are the 87%'s Sunsets I now see being advertised by more than one person seem to look very dark compared to normal Hypo Hogs and they have way too much black on the tail to even be considered a Sunset in my opinion - yet they are calling them Sunsets.
I guess I should also point out.. I really don’t care as I have sold off all of my animals except 3. However the imposter Sunsets - my new name for them - are bringing the prices of real Sunsets down and making what everyone first seemed to love about the Sunsets, the soft muted colors with extreme peaches and pinks showing through while maintaining the color change ability of the hog island into a dirty hypo.
I do not see how this is helping anyone - we should label our animals what they are and stand behind those genetics. By naming it something it is not is hurting those that actually have the Sunsets for sale.
I will state again.. MY OPINION. Just frustrating when you have a few clean animals left for sale and people are comparing them to other animals with the same Morph Name but appear nothing like the true morph. I cannot compete selling a true Sunset against a dirty hypo.

*** FIRST PIC CREDIT from D & M Breeders - the founder of Susnets with an example of a Sunset. Look at that tail, not a speck of black to be found, muted colors with very soft peach and pink hues. Now compare to what you see selling Today as Susnets.. What am I missing?
*** Second Pic - A litter from our Hypo Hog x Hypo Hog at Southernboids.com that contains Sunsets.
