First BCI litter ever!

BoaGal May 01, 2010 10:17 AM

Lets just say I was super excited last night! Het albino female bred to an albino male. This is my second successful breeding ever. The first was two years ago with Brazilian Rainbow Boas. Last year, I bred two Colombian BCI females, but neither took. This year I just bred this pair and I was getting anxious two weeks past her due date.

Last night at about 10:00, I look in her cage and see the first baby being born! I didn't get to bed until about 12:30...

There are 16 albinos and 8 hets, no slugs!

I just leave their umbilical cord alone, right? Its supposed to dry up and fall off if I remember right? There is one with some yolk still, do I have do do anything special or just wait for it to get absorbed?

I put them all in individual tubs with water dishes this morning, except I had to double up on a few because my baby rack only holds 20.

I can't wait to see what they look like after they shed their baby skin! These are all taken with the flash on.

Funky pattern on this one:

These two have little stripes like their dad:

I thought the same thing about the hets. I wasn't sure if they just looked odd to me since this is my first litter. I am definitely going to keep at least one het and one albino to watch them grow!

Oh, and I don't have the BRBs anymore, just BCIs now.

Congrats on your breeding success. Thats a decent size litter. Your adult female must have been in peak breeding condition on account that she didnt drop and slugs. Much props for breeding brazilians. Rainbows are not very forgiving when it comes to bad husbandry. Rainbows are sometimes tricky just to keep, let alone breed. I wish you the best of luck with your babies. It would be cool to hold over some of the albinos to establish an awesome breeding colony. Like I say all the time,Cant go wrong with boas. Awesome animals!
