Melanistic Eastern out Hiking

I was out with the wife and kids hiking today in North Jersey and stumbled across this beauty! I think its melanistic but maybe its just black? Any ideas?

Yeh man it was impressive with all of the hissing and the flat neck. I took the shots and chased it off the dirt road into the brush. Very cool snake. This only the second one i have ever seen in NJ.
