Lighting question

hefe Sep 22, 2003 08:57 AM

I have 4 Leopard geckos and Im putting them in a new tank which will have some plants in (aloe and some non spiney succulents) My question is, will a regular plant light in a flourecent fixture all I will need? The leos dont need UV and Im not certain if the UV bulbs for herps will be sufficent for the plants? any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

Plants don't actually need UV. They need a different spectrum that's within the visible spectrum. I've had decent luck with the blue 'plant bulb' incandescents they sell at retail stores. Decent luck is kind of relative for me because plants tend to wither under my very gaze, but I kept some pothos alive for over a year with those bulbs.
