Herping With a Weed Whacker

pyromaniac May 02, 2010 07:02 PM

A little female Pacific gopher snake I found while weed whacking the tall grass at my friend's house. I was doing a sloped area which is fairly steep, and on the downswing lopped off a big tuft of grass over a gopher mound, and this little snake came boiling out of the grass desperate to escape. I captured her unharmed. After that I proceeded more cautiously, as my friend's back yard is the Gopher Hilton, and I didn't want to take a chance on hitting any snakes with the weed whacker.

Nice find and grab! Where did you put her, or are you going to keep her? My gal is really responding to the long daylight hours... always out and about asking to be fed!

I've kept her. She ate the same day I brought her home. She was very hungry!
After I get the rest of this large property weed whacked I might put her back. My friend could use all the help he can get snake wise with his major gopher infestation.

My snakes are all eating enthusiastically now, too. Today I fed everyone frozen thawed of which I have a big stock pile.
