bakersfield ca herping?

varanid May 02, 2010 09:03 PM

My brother moved to bakersfield and I plan to go visit him sometime this summer (July/august). Any good herping in the area that ya'll know about? It's not a herping trip per se but I've never been to CA so I gotta do SOMETHING; I plan to hit up the Mojave park *drool* since it's more or less on my way.

Highlights would be: Alligator lizards, legless lizards, ANY geckos, chucks, rosies, kingsnakes, any local thamnophis, any crotalus. I don't know jack about CA since I've never been there I'll be heading in from Amarillo. I plan to devote 1-2 days to herping there when I go, if I can. Pictures only, so parks and stuff are fine (I'd give my hind teeth to get a good pic of a gila but I don't think I'll be near their range...).
