I have a large cage (40 breeder) that was in storage. I asked my mom to get it out of storage and bring it down to me on Labor day. Without consulting me she had my grandfather make a lid for it( mother has an unreasonable fear of constrictors getting out and attacking me *rolls eyes*). The lid is wood(not cedar) that is flush with the tank edges and is fairly python proof until the python is larger. The ventilation is by a series of holes drilled in the lid. At first I was annoyed because I use lamps on top of my screen lid (on my other cage) and UTH underneath and I couldn't think of how to use the lamps on the large cage then I decided to try them on the sides with the UTH under the basking area. After some adjusting I discovered that I can keep very appropriate temperatures and humidity with the side lamps and UTH. Despite this can anybody think of any reasons that I should not use lamps on the sides? Advice would be very much appreciated.
