I was wondering if high pressure sodium lights are good for reptliles?
HPS lights create a specific light spectrum in the high end - blue/white range. This is the part of the natural light spectrum that enduces photosynthesis. And because this is the only light they produce, they cause plants to grow like crazy. They are not a full spectrum light. I would not recommend it as a reptile basking light. It probably gives off a ton of heat but that high end light can definitely create eye problems down the road.
I'm figuring you've got a $150 or more tied up in that light and you'd love to put it use, but not on the reps.

How about for growing weeds and such indoors to feed turts and torts? Does a Metal Halide produce any problems in the plants that grow under it that would make them poor for feeding?
Best,
Becca
That's the whole point of metal halide and HPS lights, They produce the kind of light that plants use to grow. So if you grow your plants indoors you can get super healthy vibrant plants.
It's just not good for any thing with eyes to have a light source that isn't full spectrum.
