Droptine8 May 04, 2010 05:39 AM

How long can a ball go off of feeding ?,,this is a new snake for me,,had a few issues when I got him,vet took care of that, but now that everything seems good, he still is showing no interest in food ??, I don't get what more he needs.
Any thoughts ?

im guessing this animal is a import? balls can go off feed for up to a year or a little more. they dont usually go that long but it has happend before! and imports are known for more so than captive bred lines.

if the vet gave him a clean bill of health after the "issues" you had, and your temps and husbandry are correct, I would not worry about it. If he isnt worried about eating you shouldn't be either. This of course doesn't apply if health and body weight start to decline. If maintaining weight and otherwise seems okay, Just sit back and wait, he will get hungry eventually.

I'm no expert but I had a similar experience. I bought an adult female import many years ago that refused food for 14 months. She never lost weight or declined in any way, just wouldn't eat. I tried everything I could think of and then one day she just changed her mind and ate weekly for the rest of the time I had her.
Just be patient, give him plenty of quiet and privacy and keep offering food with as little distubance as possible.

I had a 1500 gram male stop eating for 10 months.
One day he took a medium rat and that was that...
