Gravid Girl

Miloradovich May 04, 2010 11:14 AM

I haven't been posting to much on here as of lately but thought I would share a shot of one of my gravid girls who is looking nice and plump right now.
Today puts her at 71 days post shed and 88 days post ovulation. I have high hopes for a good litter from her. She typically has had around 15 babies per litter in the past but is looking much bigger at this stage than I remember from past seasons so who knows.
I didn't produce any rainbows last year so am really looking forward to seeing some babies from a couple of my girls this year. Wish me luck and thanks for looking!

Hey Jason, she looks great, did she completely skip last year or slug out? Looks to me like she may have skipped last year making her prime for a big litter this year.

Thanks,

You are correct, nothing from her last year at all. I intentionally gave this one last year off since she had been bred multiple years in a row and intended to breed only one other girl who didn't take. I am hoping that one is gravid too this year but not very far along if she is. Found her inverted a couple of times and the all interest has stopped from the male.

Jason,
...She looks great. I bet on 22 for total number of live healthy babies.
Good luuck,
Jeff

Thanks Jeff!
22 would be an awsome amount for me. I don't think I have ever broken 16 with BRB's but then again, all of her litters have been consecutive and this will be her 1st after having a full season off so my fingers are crossed.
I'll let you know how close you got when her litter finally arrives. She is testing my patience making me wait so long while she sits around looking so thick!

Jason,
She looks BIG!. That should be a 20 litter. Good luck and be sure to share the pics.

Thanks Paul! I'll definately be posting pics if I get a good litter from her. I have a couple of BCI that are getting closer to due dates too and I am starting to get antsy from all the waiting and anticipation.
I was sorry to see that your females sluged out this year. I know thats tough and especialy difficult when you watch a female sifting through the pile like shes looking for babies. I had an extremely bad season with my BCI in 08 and had multiple girls slug out. A couple of them were gaurding their piles like they would a healthy litter. Definately a downside in this hobby but at the least the females pulled through it ok and will be able to breed again. Better luck next season.
