Brazilian rainbow boa terrarium

tomternal May 04, 2010 05:10 PM

I have a young brb(about 6-7 months) I want to make her terrarium a more natural looking habitat more along the lines of a poison dart frog style terrarium. I was wondering if anyone knew if using a soil/dirt type substrate would work for the snake and also what type of wood would be suitable for a more humid terrarium as i have tried the regular pet store hides and they turn moldy and have even produced insects so i want to stay away from them. Also is it alright to use live terrarium plants with this type of snake?

Cypress mulch is good.

So is Coir fiber. This is shredded coconut husk and is sold in compressed bricks (least expensive) that you have to soak in water to expand, or also sold in bags ready to go (more expensive).

Both are slightly acidic which means mold/fungus has a tough time growing in it.

You can mix in some repti-bark or cypress mulch in the coir as well.

Mopani wood is good for damp environs.
