CYCLURA AND OIL SPILL

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD May 05, 2010 08:39 AM

When and if this oil spill hits the Gulf Stream the oil will be carried to the shores of the Bahama's and other West Indian Islands doing who know's what damage to these fragile habitats where virtually ALL Cyclura species occur. This has been bothering me from day 1. Are there any thoughts on this possible disaster of unimaginable proportions. It is conceivably possible that entire species and subspecies could be extirpated from the planet. I'm hoping that there is some sort of thought on contingency plans if the worst scenario plays out. Does anyone else have any thoughts about this...

if it was in the pacific i would be more worried about the marine iggs.. but hopefully cycluras will not be hit too hard by this. as loong as some storm doesnt wash all the oil up on land etc.. Your not alone TOM.. it makes one think that maybe our hobby is more important than we know!

Drill in Alaska. Oil spills/disasters are much more easily contained on land than on the ocean, and the effects on the the land and habitat are way over exaggerated.
