Which is whiter between the 2 snakes?

snakeholic May 06, 2010 09:51 PM

Can a Leucistic Pine Snake (black eyes) become as white as my Leucistic texas rat snake (dark eyes)? Ive noticed most pics I see on Leu Pine snakes are somewhat pinkish to light brown.

Good question there. I have luecy S. Pine that is about 1 1/2 years old. It started out with a pinkish cast but has become more and more pure white (I'm color insensitive thought to subtle shades). There is some very faint tannish coloration to the base of the dorsal scales if you look close but to me the overall impression is pure white. He's in shed now but here's a pic from November 2009. I expect he'll been even cleaner with after he sheds this time.

Hey Markus, how's it going?

That second pic looks like some incandescent lighting got in the mix to give it a warm cast. The OP should know that is an artifact and doesn't represent your snake accurately.

Hey man all is going great!!! I bumped up this guys feeding to twice a week and he has been diggin right in with no probs!! So here is hoping he gets to a good size come wedding time

And on that second pic I think you are right...I took it with my cell phone in the bathroom and it came out a bit off from what he looks like to the naked eye. Hard to get a good shot with my camera of how white he really is. If I use the flash it makes him wash out and if I dont it makes him turn whatever color the light bulb shines haha!

But to the OP...after having had 2 LTR's at the same time that I had this guy...I would say that yes they get just as white IMO. And with these you dont get the random colored scales here and there that LTR's tend to have. Here is a pic from the breeder where we got ours from right off her website:

Ha, lucky about the feeding...I think yours will overtake my inconsistent feeder. Do you have a current weight post digestion?

Yeah ever since he went off feed for about a month back in January or February he has been on a feeding tear! I give him a good sized adult mouse on Mondays and Thursdays and he pounds them every time so far! One thing I notice is that he does not defecate nearly as often as my other snakes. He goes a week and a half or two at time without going! But then when he does go....holy caca its huuuge!! lol!! I don't have a weight on him unfortunately...I haven't ever really weighed my snakes before and don't have a scale to do it either (maybe something I will look into in the near future though). I did measure him at 44inches about a week ago. Well hopefully your fella will get onto a better roll with his feeding for you asap!!!
