Cool new combo

alicecobb May 08, 2010 07:35 PM

This very cool combo just hatched this afternoon here at Florida Reptile Room. I haven't seen any others like this around. I'm in love with the color and pattern. What do you think?

That's neat Alice, congrats!

Did you have a Champ Het Pied knowingly? Seems to me it could also be a Paradox just like Paradox Ivories have colored areas one would think a Paradox Champ would have white areas like what we used to refer to as "ringers" . I do think some of the Paradox stuff will prove out to be genetic and if that's the case keep us posted once you know more.

that snake has to be the best combo i have yet to see in a ball python.
Wasnt it some italian that made the first pied champ combo?
The only thing that could beat it would be a champ/pied with the banana/ultramel/lav colour in there aswell.

cheers

cool looking snake!

the puma pied has been done....from what i know it was first done here in italy. it's similar in sense that the two genes leave the snake with markings similiar to the spider pied...in that just the head is marked with the rest of the body being white.

Its a beautiful champagne ringer and I agree that its one of the coolest parts of that gene but whats the combo part?

alicecobb May 09, 2010 09:04 PM

Thanks everyone for your great comments. I just love the look of this little one.

We're trying to figure out all the genetics, but I can tell you that it isn't just a plain champagne. This one came from an 8 egg clutch. 1 was a regular champagne and 3 (including this one) are champagnes that have another gene thrown in.

This year is starting to get real exciting!

I hope all the mom's out there had a wonderful mother's day.

Alice,

As I am sure you may already know, true Pied Champagnes (or European Pied Pumas) were produced a few years ago by a European breeder. The parents of these combo snakes were purchased as Champagnes het. for Piebald.
Perhaps some het. pied genes are floating around?

(In the US we apply the name Puma do an entirely different morph.
In Europe, many breeders refer to the Champagne as a Puma.)

I do not know if your snake is actually a Pied...but rather it may be another combo. Whatever it is, it looks nice.
There will be some more nice Champagne Combos unveiled this season.
Congrats on your success. The results are nice!
