Boys....... Reminder to all

PHFaust May 09, 2010 09:00 AM

You know,
Ya'all were doing sooooo good. Behaving and all. And here today is mothers day and no flowers from you kids.

See some people say things in a different or more blunt manner and that doesn't always sit well with others. Perhaps reading the information rather than the perceived tone might be beneficial. This also does not need to break down into "I like this guy better than that guy, so let's gang up"

The drawback is when you all get bickering a LOT of good posts go away. And that is when people complain about moderators pulling too many posts. While I have been far more tolerant of your rantings and passion, I will not tolerate a post of direct attacks period.

Take a deep breath. If you do not like someone, dont attack them. Attack their INFORMATION. I DO NOT LIKE PULLING POSTS.

Indeed Cindy.....indeed. But condescendingness shouldnt be accepable....there's no need for it. Have you not read the MANY MANY responses newcomers have given to a certain gentleman or two over the last couple years? They were completely turned off and aggravated. Moreover I have yet to see them return openly to the forum. It's my 2 cents, and it's a valid 2 cents that MANY have agreed with. I'd like to think that I'm looking out for those that don't appreciate the very essence of this intermittent cockiness & downtalking....and if I'm wrong for that, well....then I guess I don't want to be right. Nevertheless, there should be a certain modicum of respect for those that may know less especially in an open forum.

Happy Mother's Day -- hope the 4-legged kiddies are behaving!

But condescendingness shouldnt be accepable

He is teaching and he has every right to. He has more experience than everyone on this forum put together X 1000.

What people have a problem with is someone with superior experience teaching them and all of a sudden it is "condescending" because they are corrected. That is the real issue..

My take on it is people don't have respect anymore from those that earned it. So the teacher has the lack of respect right back on the person.

Since when did this become a forum on personality conflicts anyway? It is about snakes and you few guys turn it into a deabacle every time.

This is the offending post that started it all- entiteled "This is about Education isn't it?" by FR.

http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1812466,1812611

If you read the thread you will see it was not Frank name calling or using derogotory slurs.

This is about education isn't it
Then this is a perfect example of what a reptile is. Use the behavior and test different conditions.

The original poster stated, fed once a week. There is no special formula or reptilian need to be fed once a week. That is a man made generalization.

Reptiles are ectotherms and their body temps directly relates to metabolism, and rate of metabolism relates to caloric need.

The classroom would be the perfect place to teach what it is to be a reptile and be controlled by temps and other conditions(humidity)

an example would be, if you gradually lower the temps, the snake would feed less and less and go longer times between feeding, if you gradually heat a cage up, it will feed more and more, until it gets to hot and it will fail. Normally failure is the snake regurgitating. If the temps are increased slowing, a degree or two a day, not harm will come to the snake.

Of course there is individual reaction to how fast they change behavior, but if other conditions are right, they all will follow a similar pattern.

In any case, there are many many experiments that can be very educational using this snake.

As usual, if a snake has its own ability to choose the temps and conditions it wants, WHICH IS WHAT THEY DO IN NATURE. Then you have a different animal altogether.

At certain times of the year, summer, they can and do feed daily, If they can get to the temps and conditions they want. Cheers

careful now Bob....your "getting a rise out of him" might construe you as a homosexual next or something. And it's amazing how when you throw personal stuff in there, like one's daughter (which I happen to have one) the perspective becomes SO much different. True colors are shining brightly.

You know, I don't like being a jerk to Ya'll. I'd rather be civil and a nice guy and just talk snakes.

JKruse May 09, 2010 11:05 PM

I know Bob, I know. You seem like areal nice guy. And it is nice guys that win ultimately in the end. Look at the ones who had too high of a testosterone level..........Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Tojo, Khadafy, Amin, Saddam, Ivan Drago (Ricky IV)....LOL.....I could go on and on. They all fall hard eventually. But no matter, some have really great information to share -- it's the delivery some don't agree with. And some are more outspoken than others to go up against it. And if I have to be the "bad guy"....oh well, whatever. From what I see most of the folks here appreciate decency. If i have to be "force-fed" to "read between the lines", well I can rebuttle and can insist on appropriate delivery. Now I have to be ragged on about skirts and testosterone levels.....all keyboard tough guys....and all because I insist on improving kindness. Mark my words...the time will come when a newbie steps foot into this forum and gets blasted for asking a simple question -- mark my words....in due time....

HA!! It's all about respect. We are all never going to agree on things but a least being civil and having some sense of respect is a good goal.

I have a daughter too. Coolest job in the world being a Dad! Teaching her to respect others and expect it back.
My wife is a Lawyer and one of the leaders in her department. We don't say stupid stuff like that around here.

What a guy!!

flavirufa May 10, 2010 01:24 AM

Right on Joe!Instead of the "little girl" analogy, maybe better fitting would be "spoiled children".Everyone knows how spoiled children that don't get their way,cry and stomp and have tantrums! What this really boils down to,is that some people that can't be spoon fed "in this case, ideas and information that they aren't patient enough to figure out on their own," they act out like spoiled whining kids!HaHaHa!Sad really, yet very funny!!!And like Rainer says down below on one of his posts, some people on here talk the talk, but when seen in person you almost feel sorry for them.Cyber Alter Egos, cause in person its plain as day!!! Alan

JKruse May 10, 2010 02:38 AM

On the contrary, it's the little kids that don't like to be corrected when they behave inappropriately....so they act out even more. Some parents teach their kids proper etiquette and respect. Old dogs new tricks = several involved in this conversation that just won't change. Pity.

And then to add on the invitations to the after-school yard to rumble. Nice. Would you like an ice cream cone with that too? LOL.

flavirufa May 10, 2010 11:40 AM

I was only responding to Rainers post about those who talk the talk, believe me,it wouldn't be my style to invite anyone to an "after school rumble".But in life I have learned just as Bluerosy has, that most of those who like to talk tough alot are the least of ones worrys!!!Meeting some of these cats in person or even just thru photos, even a blind man could see that it's just childs play and rants.I"m just speaking in general, but still this type of thing is very comical! Also, obviously FR has more experience in the field and in husbandry than most could gather in a lifetime. He tosses out tidbits of info to get people to think for themselves.Which is really the best way to to get people to realize that there is much more for our animals in captivity. There are different ways to teach, and sometimes spoon feeding isn't the chosen way.But knowledge is lots of time like putting together pieces of a puzzle on your own.OH and Frank,if you've read this,Kudos to you and thanks for the thought provoking tidbits! Alan

I missed the fun too. I went out snaking and the guys I went with said all this and that was going on with that thread.

Anyway, it was another of my, have respect for the whole snake" not just its skin or recipe(husbandry)

I guess there is a huge resistance to think that snakes are SMART and know how to make choices.

Then it caught fire and burnt up. hahahahahahahahaha Anyway, there is a chance I will be spending lots of time in Texas in the future, somewhere close to Del Rio. Hmmmmmmmmmmm fun could be had. Cheers

As a fairly new guy here I have to say that I almost left and said the heck with this forum. I think we need to remember that there are new people discovering a love for reptiles everyday. They may not know as much as some of you but they will definately not tolerate being made to feel stupid or insignificant. The tone of a post can be very misunderstood. Words don't come with a volume range. Sometimes a kidding remark can be taken by a new person as an insult. Remember also that experience is priceless, but not all experience is valuable. Some of you older guys speak as though your word is LAW. But wisdom is revealed unto babes.
