24x18x24... too small?

kiknskreem May 09, 2010 04:22 PM

Hey folks, do you all think it would be feasible to house a single adult (but not huge) beardie in a 28x18x24 Exo Terra? I think total volume is similar to the 45 long (48x12x17) I have him in but its a lot less floor space.

It's way too small. Height is no value to beardies. You really need length to have a good range of temperatures from basking spot to cool end.

No doubt that is much too small for an adult however cage height is equally as important as length. You should know that BDmaster as meticuluous as you are.

Cages will inevitably get too hot without sufficient height. Even low wattages (30-45) will struggle with 16" unless they are regulated.

I wouldn't consider any cage less than 24" Tall

As usual you don't know what you're talking about.

When you set up a cage for a dragon you need to worry about UVB Range. Mercury bulbs are good at about 12 to 20 inches.

Definitely way too small. Its basically half the size of the recommended minimum for a single adult bearded dragon. Bearded dragons should be housed in a cage at least 4'x2' of floor space and height can very between 18-24".

Too much height is wasted with bearded dragons as they are not arboreal lizards, even if they do climb up on elevated areas to bask. Its far better to have cage height for dragons in the range above, than putting them in a really tall cage. However a cage that is too low isn't effective...brings hot lights too close to the dragon than is needed.
