Signs of female being gravid

championjeep May 11, 2010 03:22 PM

I have a pair of B&W Northern Pines. I noticed them hooked up a couple times. Are there any signs that will tell me if she is possibly gravid?

If the snake is gravid she should feed ravenously; after a few good meals her posterior should get noticably heavy. In Pines it's very noticeable; the back end not only gets very heavy and solid, but the venter sometimes becomes square in appearance like a Rat Snake. Hope this helps, keep us posted on her progress.

Thanks for the reply. The reason I asked was my female was refusing to eat. I wasn't sure if she was gravid or not. The posterior wasn't overly big but I did notice the scales were stretched apart. This past Monday went to check on her and noticed 7 eggs. It was a very happy moment for me. I took care of the eggs and she ate for me.
