Snakes do the Darndest Things...

boredfoot May 13, 2010 09:47 AM

Or, maybe I could call this photo, "Hides, Smides."

Just a quick shot of my normal ball this morning, spending a little quality time against the glass.

Who says balls are retiring and shy? Mine spends most of every day outside the hide lounging under the heat lamp. And then, this goofy behavior today.

Who says snakes aren't funny?

I have a normal female in quarantine in a 20 gal long in my living room. It has a chunk of drift wood that comes to a high point in the middle of her cage. Sometimes I will come in and see her perched with tight coils around this highest spot in her cage. It is pretty funny. I'd like to get all my snakes into vivaria someday for this reason.

They are interesting creatures. About 6 years ago when I had my first ball python and no knowledge, I was feeding live mice. I snapped a photo of the mouse and the ball drinking from the same bowl at the same time. I might still have that picture somewhere.

Predator and prey drinking from the same dish would be a very funny photo. I've had mice and rats climb right over my ball python when he's not hungry. He'll even push them away, defensively, one day and pound them the next. Go figure!

Wow, I can't believe I still have this photo after all these years. Anyway, it's a grainy picture but you can see what's going on, and it lasted long enough for me to get my camera. I tried to feed that mouse to that snake three separate times but he was never interested. Eventually a friend of mine adopted that mouse as a pet and named him Lucky, he lived for about three years after that.

That is a hilarious photo! Proof that snakes aren't greedy! If you're not hungry, well, don't eat. We humans could learn a few things from this.

Thanks for posting it.
