NEED HELP ASAP. . . . . . . heat rock burn. . . . . .

fisherk2 Sep 22, 2003 01:28 PM

This afternoon I'm going to be helping a 12-year-old boy with a leopard gecko he is trying to save. It belonged to a friend of his, it is very malnurished, and to top it off has a burn (from a heat rock of course) on his belly. I can help him with the malnurishment, but I have never dealt with thermal burns. Can any of you give me some pointers on how to help this little gecko? I will recommend that he see a vet, but just in case that isn't an option for this little boy, what are some home remedies I can try to recommend?

Thanks a lot!!!

I have never dealt with a burn, but I imagine your main concern will be to keep it from getting infected.

I would treat the burn with a mild betadine solution... keep the gecko on CLEAN paper towel and apply neosporin to the burn daily.

I can't imagine there is any secret to caring for an animal with burns... but I may be wrong.

Good luck, I hope the gecko has a speedy recovery.

If you have an aloe vera plant handy (they're fairly cheap at any garden store), you can cut off a segment, slice it open, and apply the liquidy stuff to burns. It's soothing and has natural healing properties, but you might want to double check with somebody that it will be all right for your leo.

Hi

Definetly have your friend keep an eye on the stomache. You don't know how what degree kind of burn it possible could be/how deep it could go. If your friend can't take it to a vet., I would call one and tell him/her the situation and ask for advice. If it is burned to bad, then that skin could start to die of and you dont want it turning into ganggreen.

You just never know with burns. Good Luck and tell your young friend to hang in there.

Sincerely, TLB
