Why do people buy something...

Jason Nelson May 13, 2010 08:56 PM

When they dont even know what it is. Or buy an animal and ask question after the fact. Like what subspecies, localitys and so on and so on.

I'm on rant but it bugs!
What about ads like, Albino Applegates Bulls or even Albino Gopher. WHAT you dont even know what subspecies!

I agree in that it sucks to have hybrids, but many aren't going to breed the snake. If it's a nice animal and needs a home... what ya gonna do if you're looking for a pet? There's goofy looking snakes in the wild too. Saw a snake around here the other day and I had no idea if it was a milk snake, prarie king, or even a drab fox snake, etc. Just real muddy and washed out coloring with a few blotches to note of.

HI Matt

I wasn't talking about hybrids so much but more like buying an animal which is mislabled or even not knowing what it is or anything about the species.

I think its good thing if someone buys animal for a pet, even if its hybrid. All animals deserve a good home, living in the wild or in captivity.

Thanks for your insight Matt

Hi Jason,
I know exactly where your comin from on this and it can be perplexing at times.
This kind of thing is far worse here in the U.K.,it 's ridiculous how many crazy idiotic Q's I see asked over here.

The modern disease here seems to be .....I want everything done for me and Instant results.

I think they see the pretty photo and buy on impulse. This albino thing seems to be a very common place to have poor information presented in ads. When I buy a snake I like to know what sort of gopher it is; Pacific, San Diego, Sonoran, etc. Just saying albino is not very useful.

I think your right impulse buying.

Thanks jason

I guess I need to respond to this, since you also posted it in my ID thread.

My friend did not buy it.

I didn't mean to sound rude! I just want people to be as passionate about Pits as we are!

The forums are stuffed with people who just acquired a new animal and are finding out they should have done their homework first! This is more of a problem with buying cute little pythons or boas and winding up with a giant hassle. But even pits, as easy as they are to keep, require some research first to know whether or not the animals' needs can be met. The same thing happens with dogs and cats; but so far nobody has abandoned any unwanted snakes at my door like happens with the four legged creatures!

I know I made a post asking because I got my snake off of craigslist from someone who had it as a pet, he wasn't even sure it was a gopher snake. It is now my pet.. How am I supposed to know what sub/locality it is when the guy wasn't even sure on species and this is my first Pit, let alone snake. My snake is just a pet, not a breeder, so it does not really matter but I was curious.
