another snake rack build

alstotton May 14, 2010 05:48 AM

I seemed to have the most requests about large adult size rack,so with this in mind i got busy again last week

Here's the results, the rack is set up to utilize heat strips, tub size approx 92cm x 58cm x 16cm.
I rkn this size will work well with the larger pits , like sayi and lineaticollis.

Thanks for lookin'..... have a great season everyone.

Ok you really have my attention..... What is the finish approximate weight of the system w/o tubs in place? How tall is it....(i.e. could I get away with making it two tubs taller?

I am not all that handy. I have difficulties ending up with square edges and your racks look as though they have really low tolerances!

Give us a ball park end product cost if you would please. And finally what changes have you made to the design as you have developed the system and or what changes if any would you make to "Sutton Racks 2.0" ?

Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer the questions. Talk to me about pick of the litter 2010 ginter pituophis hatch as repayment for your efforts.......LOL!

Hi John,

Okay first up you must definately not call me "Sutton" again,or I'll start to refer to you as "Ganter" LOL

Seriously though my friend in reference to your Q's here goes.........

As for the overall weight i'll need to do a check first, although will say this though, they are considerably more lightweight compared to my previous melamine/chipboard racks.

The approx.dimensions of the rack pictured are Height 134cm Width 98cm Depth 58cm.
I estimate you could perhaps go a few more levels higher, but I recommend that users should add stability bars. This aspect is something i'm working on at the moment with a ball/boa keeper pal whom the rack was built for.

John as you can imagine when creating something from scratch only time and testing will allow the possible improvements to become apparant.
I made quite a significant advance in the whole shelving set ups from the first two I made for personal use and testing a few months back.
FAR too long and detailed to type up/list to be honest, plus I'd be rather foolish to just give away all the knowledge, sure you'd agree.
Right now i'm totally settled on the design and can't see any changes I'd need to make.I'm currently thinkin hard about a plastic viv design using similar materials as the racks.

John, fire me over an email and we can talk more on this if you wish

Ginter hatch pick!! Now theres a SWEET offer not to be sniffed at. LOL

cheers........AL

it was a real "ginder", ginther, gitner" sort of thing to do....

Now I definitely owe you a pick of litter.

I will drop you a line later in the day

Very nice rack!

You Euro's have a much wider range of extrusions than we do in the states, it must be nice.

Thanks Nate,

We (Brits ) do have a wide choice it seems, but the stuffs damn expensive here in the U.K.
I'm still discovering, sourcing and testing new materials all the time to be honest.

Cheers.......AL
