Kingsnake Lighting

dodgedakota09 May 14, 2010 03:45 PM

Hey everyone,

I have a 2 year old California Kingsnake that is currently housed in a 30gallon aquarium. My question is that I just graduated college and had to move back in with the folks until grad school next year and I'm having to place the enclosure in the closet. Should I hook a light up to the cage or not worry about it?

Thanks guys

If its in a dim closet I probably would light the cage, just so the snake can have a rest pattern. I personally don't think it would be good for snake to be exposed to darkness 24/7. Just get a light set up on a timer so you don't have to worry about shutting it on and off everyday.

I would use the light that won't heat up the cage as much also use about 2 foot of fluorescent at least and that's enough nothing major is needed.

I aggree with all the rest, you could simply hang a "shop" light that you can get at any box store and screw in low wat compact spiral florecent light that wont heat up things but will provide a day pattern- my lights are timed to go on at 7 and are off by 8 in summer and on by 8 and off by 6:30pm in winter.
