Very nice Guyana litter on the way!!!!!!

LeeMatthew May 14, 2010 06:26 PM

Good news from the collection of Lee Matthew! My 12 year old Guyana RTB Import(Miss Bothory) actually bred with my 07 Rose litter male. She is swollen now. I missed the ovulation because they have been in their hide box for most of the courting.(Female is the 1st pic)

This is Caligulia, my 07 Rose litter male that bred my 12 year old Guyana RTB. Both these pics came from the sellers years back. These pics show the color best.

here is a newer pic of the father. I really like the peaked, jagged pattern on him.

Congrats Lee!

Since you missed the ovulation, did she give you a POS so you can predict when the litter will drop?

Thanks Brandon and JB, She acually has not shed at all, so I don't think I have a pos! Although I did see a copulation on day 3 of courting. She ate a med. rat less than a month ago and is surely not swollen from that. He courted her VERY strongly.

Jonathan_Brady May 14, 2010 10:51 PM

Keep the male with her at least until she goes into shed. She could just be showing signs of a "pre-ovulation swell" which would mean she hasn't actually ovulated yet. Pre-ovulation swelling doesn't always = ovulation, but it's a GREAT sign. It can last for months before ovulation so your male may still have quite a task on his hands... err... spurs

Also, if she does go into shed, it'll take longer than normal. Around a full 2 to almost 3 weeks from the day she ovulates.

Good luck and keep that male in!!

Thanks for the info! I just separated the pair and fed the male.(He was looking a little thin)This is only my second time with a gravid female.(although I've had boas for many years) My last litter was a Jim Peters Pastel Type B X Salmon and all the babies died(just too young). Then the pair that produced them died as well. BOTH of them had very bad rectal prolapses! Quite odd-
I suppose I will reintroduce the pair just to make sure the job is done-although I am nervious for obvious reasons.Do you think I should feed the female tomorrow or wait until she is not swollen?

Jonathan_Brady May 15, 2010 06:51 AM

Go ahead and feed her, but make it a smaller meal. If she normally takes XL's, give her a medium.

It'll keep her from swelling up too big, but it will also digest faster so you can reintroduce sooner. I usually give about 4-5 days after a meal before I reintroduce. The last thing you want is a regurg right now and sometimes males will regurg a meal so they can breed. I would also imagine that males pestering a female could cause a regurg as well, so it's best to be safe.

Feel free to call me if you have any questions you want to discuss over the phone. My number is on my website
