Moving eggs to incubator

meliisa May 14, 2010 09:51 PM

My corn started to lay her eggs and we want to move them into a fresh container of vermiculite so we can incubate them when she's done.

But, how do we move the whole clump without ripping them apart? If we grab just one egg, it'll still pull apart from all the others and we don't want to rip them open.

Any advice? Thanks!

ps. She started laying this morning after I left for work and she's still laying. We're up to about 16 eggs-as far as we can tell. We're trying to leave her alone and we don't want to open the box, so it's hard to tell!

after she's done....just lift her off gently...she will hold on...use a hand for tail and hand for head end....just grab the whole pile...watch for loose ones and loose ones connected by strings....cut strings....and just put the whole bunch in the new container.....easy .....

Yeah there may be some loose ones as stated make sure they don't roll and pick up the brick of eggs and move it gently. Good luck, I still haven't had any females drop yet.

I'm expecting my first clutch soon. "Zee" went into her prelay shed last week sometime.

From what I've read if the eggs are "clumped" or stuck together do NOT try to seperate them. Just move whole clump. Also be careful not to turn the eggs.

If there are loose ones or ones connected by 'strings' cut the strings and move the loose eggs first. For the clump, use two hands to support it.
