end of an era

well my 18 year old NP just dropped 16 slugs. I had hopped to get a hold back female from her line this year but this is her 3rd year of "infertile" eggs. They are poorly formed, and poorly calcified... I won't put her through another breeding so it is off to pasture for the old girl. She has been a great breeder over the years so I have only thanks and goodwill for her.... She can lay around and eat rats in retirement now!

Anyone working with my line going to have hatchlings this year?

How many offspring did she produce over her breeding career?

great question.... got me thinking. I would guess in the neighborhood of 100 give or take.

I am not too surprised that she is no longer reproductive. She is really showing her age. The old girl doesn't put on weight as well as she used to. Although she is still pounding rats!

Ill see if I can get a pic or two of her.....

That'd be nice. Can I ask how large she is at 18?

Retiring her may well prolong her life. I retired Snowball from "production" many years ago; she's now almost 7 feet long and 26 years old! She's still my "go to" snake when I do programs for children; she's has become an educator, not to mention bringing much happiness into the lives of the children that have seen her (their parents: oh well!).

that's exactly right... You read my mind!

Get ready Mrs. Shimalfinny's 3rd grade class!

As you might imagine she is puppy dog tame and somewhere around 7 ft long.
