Building a snake building

Shawn_T May 15, 2010 02:29 PM

I am going to be building a building for my collection and get them out of the spare room. I plan to build a metal building with weld up frame. I will spray in 2 inch closed cell foam insulation, so it should be fairly easy to maintain a regulated temp in. My question is what is everyone's thoughts on how I should heat the building and regulate the temps with?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Shawn

Use fans to circulate your air at whatever speed works good. U can use a heat and ac window unit on 220 volts. Most of those have a built in temp sensor of some sort to turn them on and off when the temp drops and or rises. How big would the building be? Most units state the amount of area that they heat and cool efficiently. My personal choice for a building provided I had the money to do so would be a 40 x 50 insulated with plenty of lighting, a 3 ton ac with a heating unit, and backup generator in the event of power failure. Running water, toilet facilities...I guess I would overdo things. LOL!!

Oh...and a humidifier system to regulate that aspect of things.

The building is gonna be a 15x20 with 8 foot walls. I was thinking of putting a window heat/ac unit, however I was going to use a 110 unit and not a 220. I already bought 2 ceiling fans and 4 four foot shop lights. I will have 2 inch closed cell insulation foam sprayed in. Also will be putting something up to finish the wall. Not sure I was wanting to use dry wall though. Any ideas?
I am pretty excited about getting it up and going. My only concern is the heat/air situation. I want to be able to keep a stable temp and not have to stress about it getting too hot or too cold.

Thanks
Shawn

I would imagine drywall would be fine. Just about any material that can be sealed against wetness would be fine. I would use a good water sealent on the interior walls as a preventive measure. That's just my opinion though. I am still a ways away from being able to build anything to house my reptiles seperately. How are you going to do the floor? Vinyl flooring? Tiles? I like the idea of vinyl flooring for easier clean up and disinfectiong. BTW...The one ten ac unit is good, but I thought about 220 because I had heard they were more energy efficient. I may be misguided on that though. I need to check into that some more.

I lost a garage but gained a snake room. It's 12'X20' with 9' cielngs. I'm using a one ton heat pump. Takes care of the heating and cooling and has worked great. Never have to worry about it getting too hot or cold. I also coated the concrete floor with an epoxy treatment for easy clean up and disinfecting. Hope this helps.
