Yesterday at Snowbank Lake

daneby May 15, 2010 11:00 PM

I found a few baby western toads & 8 northern long toed salamanders yesterday.

This area was hit pretty bad a few years ago by forest fire, but as you can see some little trees are growing in place on the burned ones.

I found these 2 males & gravid female under the same log

I saved the best for last. Look at this awesome little female! I couldnt resist, I brought this one home to add to my long toed group.

Ambystoma macrodactylum are one of my favorites! I do not blame you, she is a beauty! Are you breeding them?

SOOOO cool to see all that life come up from what appears to be a ghost town of dead trees!

Yea Todd, I was worried that the herps in the area would be gone after the fire, but the very next spring the toads, frogs, & sallys were out in full force. They must have been in some pretty deep burrows while it was burning.

Its just Mother Nature cleaning house!
Man, that LAST long-toe ROCKS! I'd have kept it, too. LOL
