Hypo Pueblan market value?

DerekMoynihan May 16, 2010 09:09 PM

I have an adult female hypo pueblan. She is a young adult and my male hypo just bred her a few days ago. I need to raise a few bucks for a rack system so I was thinking of selling her. I was wondering what a fair market value is for this snake.

Lone females are worth more than lone males. Sell them as a pair to get the most out of the female value.

Whatever the current price is of neonates i would double. So $150-$200 ea...?

If you just want to sell one, then sell the male.

I remember the early days of some morphs when a homozygous male was worth more than a female (because you could use it to produce more numerous hets by breeding to multiple females, while a female could only be bred to a single male so produce a fraction the number of hets). Any chance that should be a consideration here?

Nope! You are thinking of new higher end animals that not many people have and that everybody wants. iN ORDER TO PROTECT ONES INVESTMENT IN A NEW MORPH IT IS NOT WISE TO SELL LONE MALES OR ANY MALES AT ALL.

If a new morphs are avliable then it take 2 years to raise the male. Then breed the male to mutiple normal females. Then raise those hets up (females take 3 years to reach sexual size, some 2yrs) and after you breed the original male (father) back you get 50% hypos...ugh! how many years has passed.. i lost track?

These are not high end animals to make it worthwhile. the hypo pueblins have unfortuantly seen rock bottom prices. i have seen then marked $45. at reptile shows. And you know that could probably be negotiated down.

Eveyrbody wants females in this range! Males are hard to move. That is why i sggested he sells them as a pair. this forces the buyer into getting the male.

Actually I have an adult trio. I was just thinking of parting with one of the females to raise a little money for a rack. I guess if I do that it really will be just a little money, lol. The market has really seemed to slow down. I'm also trying to sell a red spotted dalmation crested gecko on here. A few years ago I could have sold it the first day for twice as much. Not anymore. I guess I just need to stick with my true passion which is tree vipers and small rattlesnakes.
