17 egg clutch....This is a BIG girl!

MikeWilbanks May 17, 2010 01:58 PM

In 2002, A friend of mine, Webb Tilton bought a normal female from Kingsnake. She was absolutely the biggest Ball Python that I had ever seen. She was around 6000grams at the time. He bought her for $250. She produced a nice clutch of 12 eggs for him that year. I had to have her, so I offered him $1000 for her. He accepted and I have had her ever since. She has laid a nice clutch for me every year. The smallest clutch she has ever laid was 13 eggs and she has never laid a slug. I guess because she eats retired breeder jumbo rats, she always has enough weight to produce every year. I looked up my records and she has laid 119 eggs for me since 2003.

Going into this breeding season she weighed in at just over 8100grams. This year she laid 17/0. I've had some small retic clutches that size.

I have kept every girl from her for the last few years. They are all unusual because they want to eat everything all of the time. None of them have ever had a fast. She obviously has something genetically special going on. They are super producers.

Here is one of her first daughters. This girl started the season at 4600grams and recently laid a clutch of 12 perfect eggs.

Wow Mike, nice gene to work with for sure, love the bar coding sticker, where do you stick that, on the belly or on her back...lol..

That is one big B*%CH

By reading your card, the male is a butter spinner. Would that make it one in eight odds of hitting a butter spinner? In theory you should get two, you don't usually have that going for you when dealing with long shot odds. Good Luck, Mike

WOW! That's got to be close to a record clutch. Has anyone ever had a bigger clutch?

Best of luck with that clutch and let me know if you have a
normal/het female available from this clutch!!

ngm_exotics May 17, 2010 06:35 PM

Damn Mike! That snake is literally worth her weight in gold! 8100 Grams is the biggest I have ever seen.

I WAS going to comment on paying $1000 for a normal female...but after reading about 119 eggs...I think it's safe to guess you have made a return on her. Haha.

Awesome.

"normal" may not apply. That's one huge freaking ball.
Wonder if it'd eat rabbits?

$1000 was not too crazy during the boom time. $1000 was a pretty common price to see on KS for a normal breeder female a few years ago.

Mike,

That female is incredible!

I have a 5500 gram female and I thought she was large, but she's a midget compared to that big girl of yours.

It's amazing that she laid 17 eggs, WOW!!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing her with us and good luck with the hatch.

Just Amazing.............

She get's any bigger and she might find herself on the ROC list...

Cool clutch, one more reason for us all to be a little jealous.

have you seen that the babys tend to be bigger than others ?
any idea how old she is..

MikeWilbanks May 18, 2010 03:52 PM

Hi Rolf,
I don't really want to sell anything from her yet. I can bring you some babies from her daughters. The only way I might sell a baby from her is if it was from an expensive Triple gene or something like that. If I hit a Butter Spinner from her, I might sell one.

I have built most of my Fire collection from her and some of her Fire daughters are huge 4500 . I sold Fires from other girls and kept all the Fires from her. So my Black Eyed Leucistic project will be mostly from her offspring. I also have bred her to most of the codom morphs over the years, kept the babies, raised them and now I have clutches from many of her daughters that are huge. I just got a clutch from a Spider girl that was her daughter. She went into the season weighing 1800grams. It was her first year to breed and her first clutch. She just laid 12 perfect eggs!

Send me an email and tell me what you are interested in for September.

Could we take this giant bp and keep breeding for bigger sizes? Hah, I could only imagine a 10' "giant" bp.

I've never seen such a large ball python. Have you ever tried to get an accurate length measurement?

I've had 17-egg clutches before. Here's one from a female that was only 5300 grams and less than 6 feet long at the time of oviposition: forums.kingsnake.com/viewarch.php?id=20697,20697&key=2003
I think egg production (after a certain mass is attained) is dependent on the length of the snake. No matter how much more body fat they put on, the length of their oviducts must constrain the number of (normal-sized) ova they can hold.
