glue trap rescue

cochran May 17, 2010 02:53 PM

Got a snake call at work today. When I arrived this what I saw,a young black rat completely stuck to a glue trap!He was very weak and has a small kink in his neck which I think may be due to the position he was stuck in.Hopefully the kink will straighten out. Here's a before and after pic! Jeff

Good save! I hate those traps. How did you get him off without tearing his skin? Is the glue fairly weak?

I agree!I've always hated these things myself.I don't even like to see a mouse or parts of one stuck on one.If you look closely at the snakes face you'll see a gray fuzzy spot like a mouse got away!Lol!I used olive oil,a Q-tip and a small flat screwdriver like the ones in eyeglass repair kits to free him.First I saturated one end of the Q-tip with oil and starting with the tail first, just rubbed it on him and let it set a second or two.Next I gently pushed the end of the screwdriver underneath him (the glue is really thick)in very small increments gradually freeing him. This works on duct tape traps also!It took me about 30 mins.
