OK, I need to add some info. This guy was caught in Dade county, Fla. My friend's main concern was that if it was
mugitus, he wants to release it where found.

Does anyone think it looks like a Southern??

I don't, but I don't know anyone who has seen a Dade county Pine...

Hey, you know me better as Nick Mesa.

To me that snake looked like a bull snake, or a bull/pine cross. For further confirmation, there are probably scale counts that can be done. I believe at least one pine snake has been recorded from Dade County before, but their habitat in that county (the coastal sand ridge) is long gone, and I don't think they were ever well known from that area. I would try to find out where exactly that snake was found and look at the habitat. If its swampland, or houses, then you know that's a released pet.

don't like a southern pine to me.....looks like a X of some type......betcha its an escapee....or a release in the fla tradition of unwanted pet disposal......THAT'S A JOKE GUYS....

That snake has northern pine written all over it. Escaped or released animal. Your friend ought to keep it...one doesn't get that lucky. Those things are hard to find where they naturally occur, let alone 700 miles out of their range!!!
