Laying eggs.

janome May 17, 2010 07:30 PM

Hey. So its been 24 days since my snakes mated. My female went through a shed cycle an shed couple days ago. She's been eating like crazy. I read smaller meal would be better now so gave her a hopper mouse soon after she shed an she did eat it. Had a poo so fed her again. Only now she is refusing to eat. Does this mean she will lay eggs soon? She does have a nest box an does go in an out of it. I check daily but no eggs yet. Sure hope its soon. Waiting is hard work

My corn snakes lay eggs 10 days after shedding. Egglaying typically takes place about six weeks after a successful mating. This seems to be the norm for a lot of breeders.

yep
3 to 4 weeks to start to go into shed
then the shed proccess
then 7 to 14 days (average 10) to lay

Oh cool. So she's getting close. I was holding her for a few moments today. She was active so thought I'd check her. I can feel some eggs. Now do yours stop eating after shedding? Thanks for your help.

Normally, a female will stop eating right after her prelay shed until the day she lays her eggs.

We attempted to feed a small mouse to my girl two days after she layed. OMG! She was starving. Go figure.

My female (see post below) had her pre-lay shed last night, and ate a fuzzy this morning. It can't hurt to offer her one or two.

She will definitely be hungry after she lays.

I'm getting anty too. Its been a few years since I last had snake eggs. Here's a pic from 2004.

I meant "antsy" not "anty".

-Waiting is hard work

Waiting for the eggs is hard work... waiting for them to hatch is even harder!

Good luck! Hope you get lots of eggs!
