cjan these snakes constrict??

poison1981 May 18, 2010 01:08 AM

the way a python can:? If they wanted to? Can they squeeze? I noticed sometimes a hawk will get a rat snake but the rat snake will wrap around the hawk and squeeze it to death can these snakes do the samething?

Yes, they can constrict! Here is a baby pic of my Pacific gopher feeding on baby mice; see how she has squeezed one with her body while she eats another. I don't have any pics of them throwing loops over their prey, but they commonly do that.

Great shot. Looks like those two in the corner would rather not watch.

LOL!

I'd had to venture a Yes.
Especially in the case of some of the more powerful constrictors category, which I guess some pituophis sp. would certainly qualify.

I know my big yellow deppei deppei male is extremely powerful, all muscle.

Here is that baby gopher snake several hundred mice later! She is constricting the feeling out of my thumb and index finger.

Is that the female you caught?

pyromaniac May 20, 2010 12:20 PM

No, this is my cb Pacific Gonzo, who was hatched in mid August 08. She now weighs 600 grams, and likes to wrap herself around my hand and squeeze like my pyros, unlike most of my other pits, who like to move from hand to hand.
