probiotics with antibiotics?

robbeardies May 18, 2010 06:06 PM

I'm curious as to who all recommends using a probiotic while using a antibiotic, such as albon or panacur. I hear that if you use a antibiotic it kills both the good and bad bacteria, so during you should use a probiotic to replenish the good bacteria. My vet has never mentioned the word probiotic whenever she gave me albon for my dragons when they had coccidia.

it is a good idea to use a probiotic after a course of antibiotics have been used, not during. Not all vets mention this but I even had my human doctor recommend using a probiotic after or even during the time I am on an antibiotic, to help with replenishing gut flora.

Also, since antibiotics can cause yellow fungus disease to develop, it is recommended to use a probiotic after every treatment of antibiotics to prevent any developing of this disease (which is very hard to get rid of and often is fatal, especially in bad cases).
