GRRR another slugged out clutch!!!!!

joshhutto May 19, 2010 08:52 AM

Well I have learned my lesson, never move in the middle of a breeding season. We moved from sunny SW Florida to South Carolina at the end of December and I resumed breeding once we got up here. The males were barely interested and lock-ups decreased to about every other introduction. I have now 1 clutch of vialble eggs in the incubator and had my 4th in a row of nothing but slugs. This is getting very old quickly. With a couple of big clutchs still yet to be layed, it's getting hard to be optimistic.

That really stinks man... I'm fixing to move 4 miles down the road and I am sweating that as is, but dang that was a good bit of a move! Ill keep my fingers crossed those other few clutches have big white eggs with great odds for ya. Hang in there man!

Sorry to hear that Josh.. Keep in mind the years that you don't make alot are the years that allow you to reorganize and redirect your collection if need be.. This year won't be crazy here for me either clutch number wise but I fully knew that 5 months back anyways and I'm using this year to my advantage to focus on putting together the genetic combinations (mapping out so to speak) that I want to see results for next year and this year will give me a chance to focus on those animals so that odds are very good that next year I'll be putting together some things hardly anyone has thought about or can even do for that matter.. This whole thing about how many clutches people hatch out is overrated in my mind as I purposely try not to breed everything I have as if I did I wouldn't realistically have a place for it all if they all have clutches at the same time anyway so I like to spread things out a little so I don't get overloaded. I do think less is more in alot of ways and quite frankly I'm not even interesting in cranking out 100-150 clutches , could do that if I wanted to spend $2500 MONTHLY on rodents and kill myself trying to do it all (allergies and such would be that much worse for me) so I just do what I want and make things I don't have to sell everything of and don't let the rat race get to me anymore, it isn't worth it. With people overproducing and driving markets down chasing the $ $ and bragging rights of how many clutches they had is silly to me anymore. Would much rather focus on making cool stuff I like and seeing what else I can make instead of making more stuff than I need or having a bunch of stuff everyone else has plenty of too!

Best of luck with what you have coming up man, next year will be better for you , just focus on that and move forward man!

Take care
Anthony McCain

I know exactly what you mean. The good thing is that these females didn't loose that much weight so hopefully will recoupe really well for the next breeding season that they get bred. I have been cutting way back over the last 6 months as I am getting back to this being a hobby and enjoying it alot more. I'm almost out of normal breeders and will be very soon. It's nice almost every tub I look in has a "pretty" snake in it now, lol. Had a couple more ovulations today and one from a 3k gram het pied to pied and a female vanilla x ? so hopefully those 2 go full term for me. If they do I will be very very happy. Good luck to you to Anthony and I look forward to seeing some new SS and mystic stuff in a few months.

I have had as many slugs this year as I have in the last 5 years combined. I feel your pain, my last slug fest was Pastel Het Clown to Het Clown....5 of the white slugs. I had a CH female slug out too....and my Pastel YB to Pastel clutch was slugs and one bad boob egg.
