Nocturnal Cyclura?????

Okay, Kismet (lewisi hybrid) is acting very strange lately. In addition to eating her normal food, about an hour or so after she has gone to bed and her lights are out, she wakes up and starts looking for food. If I haven't picked up her dish yet and there is anything left from earlier, she'll munch on that. Otherwise, she'll make a racket by tearing things up in her enclosure until I bring her another plate of food. She may not eat it all at once, but will get up several times during the night and her plate will be empty by morning. She is generally outside for part of the day, but always inside at night.

Based on everything I've read and her behavior over the past six years, this is very very unusual. Does it sound like something to worry about? Her last vet visit was in late January and she had a full blood panel. Everything was good. She's been shedding quite a bit, though. Maybe being itchy is waking her up? Any ideas?

first thing to do is give more food during the day. Seems to me she doesnt like coming in at night and not real happy with her sleeping quarters and trying to find something better. Mine hate to come in too. How about a heated "sleeping box" for the outside.
If you dont change anything she will probably get used to it. She is trying to tell you something, they usually sleep like rocks... get it?... rocks?....

sounds to me that she is gravid..some female iguanas with unfertile eggs get restless..one of my freerooming green iguanas actually laid unfertile eggs in the middle of the night..some in my closet and some in my bed while i was sleeping!!! LOL..this was a long time ago.in the 90´s and i was just a kid.. she was my first iguana..still miss her when i think of her!...

so i would give her as much food as she wants..and keep an eye on her..

Petranelly is totally shedding and acting CRAZY as well. She usually lays eggs late august, so I'm chalking up the insanity to that.

I give her pelled parrot food (because it is basically the same as rep-cal pellets) and that seems to calm her down, and she gavoons it all up.

Other than that..she's off the wall

LoL

I use ZooPreem for my parrots and my lizards (and sometimes my tortoise!). This way I can buy it by the 20 lb bag and feed everyone. (I used to use the fruit, but now switching to natural (she doesnt care, she eats anything), Comes in many sizes! pick the size based on the size of your guy)

Here is the story on how I came about using it:
I used to work for a major web-based reptile supply company* (*name witheld that advertises in Reptiles and on kingsnake) and could get the peleted Rep-Cal food at wholesale cost, however even at that price it was super expensive for the amount which my iguanids tortoise were eating. When I decided to swith my parrots onto pellets (like every bird owner is told to do) I compared the ingredients from all peleted bird foods and they were basically identical to the "iguana" food. Petra and my other lizards seem to eat it fine dry, and consume a ton of it. It fattens them out, and has great nutritive value. Only 2 problems I have run into with it:
1.) Molds quick and stinks if wet
2.) My 17 year old greeny has a problem digesting even "cockatiel" size..he gets a sprinkle with baby food

Right about now Petra is 4 1/2, weighing in at 11.5 lbs and eating aprox 1.5 cups every 3 days or so. I give her salads at least 3-4 times a week, and between "wet" feedings she gets the dry.

Kismet gets pelleted parrot food and pelleted iggy food also, as a supplement to her greens. She does like it a lot also.

She usually lays in July when she lays, so it's getting close enough that she could be gravid.

And no, Jiffy, she doesn't really like to come inside, but I don't feel safe leaving her outside, especially since we don't have a back fence right now.

I'm guessing that we're looking at a combination of factors....

Hey, Susan, thanks for the credit but it was Joel (jf) that replied to you, not me. I have to agree with him, though. Give Kiz a headrub for me.

Really May 19, 2010 08:13 PM

Oops, sorry!

And I will definitely give her a headrub from you!

She's never given me a bit of trouble before and I hate to see her distressed in any way!

one of my rhinos laid 15 eggs on tuesday night she hadnt been in with my male so were infertile but she didnt eat hardly anything for the last 2 week so if yours is pigin out maybe its not that

my male is always up at night, he goes to sleep wakes up walks around a little and then goes back to sleep he too eats at night all the time, i leave my guys out all night but they have his and hers heated boxes because she can get real nasty after she lays eggs and she fights real dirty to like bitting the males face and arms.
