End the season with a flare! (pics)

royalgoldreps Sep 22, 2003 04:17 PM

This year I did something that I should have done two years ago. That was put my male blazing blizzard double het with a female bell albino to prove out the albino portion. I did that. What follows is the result of the LONE egg that was fertile and hatched from her.

This is also the LAST egg I have for the season! Been one of those years for me.

I say that with qualification as the egg was only marked "Bell" and I did do some breeding for Bell Het. This egg came at about the same time as many distractions, including frustration with the very low hatch rate I have experienced this year. BUT, unless one of the normals that I put my Bell male with is also het for Bell (unlikely) this egg actually did come from my BBDH X Bell mating. She was also with a patternless male, but that was earlier in the season and he was pretty young at the time.

So, without any other boring details or fanfare (and appologies for the little bugger moving to get out of the light) here is another FIRST for Royal Gold Reptiles:

Here is an overall view of the critter. On first glance it looks VERY similar to a Las Vegas albino. As a matter of fact when I opened the container and saw it that is the first thing that crossed my mind, "CRUD ( or something similar) I mismarked MORE eggs?" Then I noticed something different. The eyes actually were GLOWING, even though it was quite dim.

Check out the eyes! (again, I appologize for the fuzzyness. These guys have EXTREMELY sensitive eyes and it was constantly trying to find a dark place to hide)

Here is a picture of one of my newly hatched Las Vegas for reference. Notice the darkness from the eyes on the top of the head. Compare that to the lack of color on the Bell above. Mainly though, notice the difference in EYE color itself! Amazing.

What do you think? A great way to end a season?

ok so did you make your own line of dbl het blazing blizzards or did you buy them, if so from whom?
that baby is gorgeous and it is neat to see peole trying to prove out the gene rather than just breed it and assume it is what some other people say. i have a few friends doing this same thing from other peoples bb stock and"tremper" pa stock.

I bought these. I was one of the first few that got them from Prehistoric Pets with the Bells providing the stock to him. Please do not ask me how much I paid for them, it is embarrassing!

I tried making my own BB double hets this year and did not get any. I did get a couple of LVPA double hets though amoungst others including 2 LVPA's and a bunch of possible hets of normal, LVA and Patt. I am selling all of them except for the PA's and the Patternless.

Congrats on the little guy or girl. I am working on the patty bells myself. I have a double het rainwater and bell albino who is possible het for patternless that I am breeding to a double het patternless bell female. I will be happy to see some pattys pop out just to prove the male one way or the other. Seems like we would have heard of someone producing some Patty bells. Keep up the good work Steven and keep us posted.

Yeah, so far no one has been able to produce a Patternless Bell Albino or a Blazing Bell Albino. That really would be something though. I'm crossing my fingers for you!
Thanks
Justyn
