Golden Corns

BlueKing May 20, 2010 11:04 AM

Hi everybody. It's been a while and it's been busy this year.
I am still in Afghanistan, but received a phone call from my wife yesterday who told me that one of my 1st generation hets has begun laying eggs...She has only laid two eggs so far (a big one and a small one), hopefully more will be coming soon. The other hets and the original Golden corn should begin laying their eggs real soon.... I'll try to get some pix and post them as soon as they have all finished laying.
Keepin my fingers crossed,
Zee

Thanks.... Can't wait to get home SOON!
Three eggs so far from my first female. My wife said that female has laid ONE egg every day for three days now. I guess she's taking her time or just nervous (it's her first clutch).

Zee,Happy to hear everything's o.k.! Good luck with the golden corn project! Is the baby pic a golden? Take care! Jeff

Thanks. I see that you still got your smokin' okeetees!
The baby in that pic was an 07'. It was the most contrasting (best looking), out of all the babies that I've ever produced. It had the lightest background color - almost white. Unfortunately it died about three months after hatching, even though it ate on it own... I sure wish THAT one would have lived!

Thanks.
I noticed your signature: Are you Kingsnake guy too? (Most of my collection is Kingsnakes, but I like both Corns & Kings)

I love most colubrids, Kings Milks, Rats Corns and others. I'm not big on Boas and Pythons though there are a couple I wouldn't mine having. Like Rosy Boas, maybe a really cool Ball Python, though I grew up thinking of them as junk snakes and now look what's happened, lol. Here's one of my favorite kings right now. I can't wait to breed them.

Very nice! I like those too (and I have three of them). I remember making trips out to West Texas and collecting a few of my own, years ago (before the laws got really stupid there). Now those days are gone and Texas would much rather have people run them over with their cars......
Here's a pic of one of those (that I found near Langtry).

So you still have 3 that's cool! I was lucky to get a Hwy 277 male from a line breeding project that was from blue parents. Unfortunately it was the last one he had for that year and he won't have any for a couple years cause one of his breeders died. He kept back a psibling pair from the same clutch as mine so maybe I'll get a female in the future but there will be a big age difference. Mean while I am going to breed him to 4 different females in hopes of getting my own blue line started. It will be a fun project. Here's some pics, male is first.

Some of us were getting worried about you over there. you hadn't posted in so long. I saw your post and said "He's alive!"

Glad to hear about the eggs too. Hope the odds are with you this year.

Stay safe.

Thank you for the kind words. Right now the only thing happening here has been isolated rocket/mortar attacks. It's good that they (Taliban) can't aim worth a squat, but that can also be bad (but very rarely). But overall it's not so bad over here. The weather is a little hot lately and I still haven't seen a single snake, but a few nice lizards and tons of geckos at night. Other than that I do stay busy and enjoy what I do over here!
It has been an interesting start so far: I got three eggs from my first female (so far). My wife said that female has laid ONE egg every day for three days now. I guess she's taking her time or just nervous (it's her first clutch). The rest should be laying their eggs soon!

Good to hear from you Zee. Take care and hurry home.

BlueKing May 21, 2010 01:38 PM

Thanks. I hope to be back REAL SOON! I'm only out here to pay off some bills and my new house - then I'm DONE over here! And then it's back to breeding and enjoying my snakes!
