Not eating, why?

Scooter234 May 20, 2010 02:26 PM

My western hasnt eaten in the past 3 weeks. I got him in february, and he was eating fine, stopped for a week before a shed, was eating fine, and now wont eat at all. I got new frozen pinkies, but he ate 1 before... they are a lil bigger, so that might be a cause... Is there anything i can do to get him to eat?

How about a rundown of his set-up... Temps hot and cool side, humidity levels, caging, day/night cycle, age of the animal... It is hard to say what the problem may be without knowing how the animal is being kept... There are many things that cause reptiles to go off feed...

I have a young male that didnt eat for 6 weeks right out of hibernation. once the temps came up and he got really hungry he took a couple small pinks and then went right back to eating normally. i usually offer a smaller than normal meal to any snake that has stopped eating for a while. id say as long as your snake isnt losing alot of weight and still looks healthy, he should go back to eating soon. offer a meal once every two to three days maybe more and leave him alone for the day so he will have a chance to find and eat it if he wants it.

Well, he just ate. I put him in the container i feed him in, and cut the pinkie a little bit. Took him a while, he kept smelling it and slithering away.
He's about 6 months i guess, not sure. small, a lil less than a foot long. 20 gallon aquarium, undertank heater and ligh, around 90 on the hot side and around 75 on the cooler side. no idea what was up. Hopefully he's back on track now though, thanks
