Jungle T+ premature litter

Markus Jayne May 20, 2010 04:07 PM

Hi All!

Well I've got some good news and some bad news. My het T+ female dropped her litter a little premature at 94 days POS. As you can see most still have their yolk sacs out. I hope they all survive because I can handle the ball python stuff but this Boa breeding is new to me. Just so you know they were all covered in moist paper towel after I took the pics so the sacs don't dry out. Oh and I had 1 slug.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Markus

Can't see the pix. I'm sure most will say to put them in seperate deli cups and keep the heat up but i'll let the folks with more experience answer that one. Iwish you the best of luck with them. Try to get those pix up cause it's gonna be helpful.

Stick them in your python incubator. Perfect humidity and heat is a must... Ive turned around several albino/sunglows and other morphs who were born with heavy sacs and a few days early.

Moistened paper towel would be the substrate and a descent size container. I kept them together and they would keep each others bodies warm. 100% success.

Congrats on the litter Markus.

Let them all soak in the fluids together with some occasional warm misting.
Also keep their heat near 88 like mother would have done

I personally would would tie off the umbilical cords separate the
yolks sacks from the babies and place them all in a tub together.

Keeping the ambient heat at least 88*-90* with 100% humidity
that's just how I would do it.

The incubator suggestion sounds Great to me !!

Tie off the cords. Cut the yolk sacs off and place in the incubator with 100% humidity?

Can I tie off with dental floss?

I really appreciate all the advice!!!!

Floss or thread. I agree with what Larry said. After a few days the cord will start sucking into the belly. Cut the tip of the cord off with the thread before it sucks into the belly. It might bleed a little but no problem.

Markus Congrats, those are all winners!!! Sorry for the premie litter but I hope they all make it for you, they look amazing!!!! Just keep them warm and moist, just like every said. Beautiful snakes!

out with a bang. This is a top of the line litter in boas. I saw a while back that you were doing some boas but not sure what lines or morphs. You answered that question! As for the premies I do the same as Larry M suggested and have had good results. All may not survive but a good number will. Some look more mature than others and those will most likely thrive. You will know early on.

Take care and good luck!

They don't look that great health wise but you will always have those litters. As far as the animals looks, well we hope they all pull through for you as they are unreal. What was the male you used, jungle het T ?

BNixon May 21, 2010 08:31 AM

As the others have said get rid of those egg masses and keep them warm. They best of luck with them keep us updated on their progress!

It was a pretty stressful day yesterday but a great lesson learned yet once again. Thanks to everyone who replied and sent me emails. It really means a lot to Jayne and me.

This morning all the babies are well and seem to be progressing nicely. I still have one, a jungle T, that is questionable but it is improving as well. Unfortunately I will be away for the next week so I will not be able to give any more progress reports until I get back. I have family and staff here looking after everything and they will update me.

Two more litters to go! Damn this boa breeding is exciting!

Thanks again!!!!!!

They look good despite being premies. I think a good number will survive.

Hi Mark,

Big congrats, thats a nice boa litter ... I'm sure most of the babies will be fine if you keep them warm, moist and attached to their yoke sacs for a few days. Many of them will probably break free on their own.

Please post more pics when they start to grow, T+ Jungles are the best.

cheers, John
