Do you have anything in the incubator that holds thermal mass...like water bottles or anything?

i have the hovabator incubator(no thermal fan). eggs are in a nine inch deli cup with a lid. what would be the reason for the water bottles? r the eggs gonna be okay?

You'll know within a week....

The water bottles would become the temperature of the air around them...so if the incubator is set to 90, they would be 90...if the power was lost and the air around them dropped to 85...they would emit heat and neutralize the air temps for a while at least...keeping the air warm for a bit.

They might survive. Like the person below me said, you'll know in a week.

how long can they go without heat. they weren't at 75 the whole time. power was out for about 5hrs but that doesn't meant that it was that low for the whole time. ill do the water bottle thing in case of future problems.

Hi,

All I can tell you is that there where a few breeders in New Orleans when Katrina hit. They had told me that they drove there eggs without heat for several hours to leave the hurricane zone and they suffered no ill effects on moving them in there car. I have been told that any heat changes can effect your eggs and only time will tell. But I know from what I have been told that it isn't always a death sentence when you lose your power.

Good Luck,
Bill

I can't promise they will be fine, but don't get too worried.
The substrate and the incubator probably held decent temps. Not only that, but if it was a gradual temp change and not a sudden drop, they have a better chance at adapting and being ok.

Good luck.
